My Generous Child

First you need to know that Emily keeps a little box of special rocks under her bed.

Today, I picked up Emily from Sunday school and her teacher told me some surprising and funny news. Unbeknownst to me, Emily put a rock in the offering plate. When her teacher said that the offering is suppose to be money, Emily said, "But it's my favorite rock and I want the church to have it." Well, the teacher appreciated that and said they will have to figure out what to do with the rock. I love the generosity and simple act of my little girl. Though it was only a rock, it was the best thing my five-year-old had to offer to God.

That's one of the most touching stories I have heard...almost brought tears to my eyes! I hope my children one day respond with equal generosity and love to give for the Lord's purposes!

as a fellow rock lover, i can appreciate the act of sacrifice and the worshipful offering of one of her prized posessions. also reminds me of the lyrics to an old church song (also in scripture - somewhere!) "and if man should fail to praise Him, then will the very rocks will cry out!"

that's so sweet. often my kids remind me that God loves the childlike faith.

my elizabeth also loves rocks. but she's not as organized as to keep a box of them. they tend to end up in the trash.

Bless her sweet heart. I am so glad the teacher accepted it and did not rob her of the joy of giving!

She is precious! Can't you just imagine the smile it brought to God's face?

Emily, that was such a thoughtful gift - we're proud of you! :)
